A 75 year-old farmer, Schalk Featherstone, of Aberdeen in the Eastern Cape was shot and murdered in cold blood in his house on Thursday night 3 December 2015.
Warrant officer Wessel Cronje police spokesperson, told Maroela Media the 75-year-old man had lived alone on the farm. “The man’s body was apparently found by a neighbor in his house. He was shot six times in the torso” said Cronje.
According to Cronje the man was able to call someone for help before he died. “According to the information available at this stage, there was a knock on the door about 21:00 and the man opened. A single suspect was at the door and shot the man”.
Somehow the man managed to call for help before he was shot dead. The exact sequence of events is still being investigated by the police, “he said.
The suspect reportedly fled in the deceased’s truck. He was stopped in the farm road by a resident who recognized the bakkie (truck). “The suspect stopped, jumped out of the truck and ran away,” said Cronje.
“A gun was found at the scene, but it is not clear whose gun it was. It was unclear if the firearm was used in the murder”.
Cronje said nothing was stolen during the attack but police are investigating allegations that the suspect is a former employee. Nobody has been arrested in connection with the murder.
