Elderly man hit attacker a few times on the head with wooden baton

On March 15, 2015 a suspect male was arrested for attempted house break-in and assault at a farm off Spesbona road, Durbanville. Just after 21:40 a call came through on the DCI radio asking for assistance as there was a situation on a farm.

The lady on the radio said there was an intruder on the property. The DCI controller dispatched all Response companies and the Durbanville SAPS.

The also needed an ambulance, at that stage Bassett Alarms Officers knew it was serious. Shift Commander Brits together with Response Officer Geldenhuys arrived shortly after and found that a young man on the farm had confronted the intruder, the intruder then attacked the young man.

The owner of the farm saw what was happening and fired a warning shot from his gun.

An elderly man came out of the house and found them all fighting, he grabbed a wooden baton and hit the perpetrator on the head a few times.

Two other security companies, the SAPS and a member of the Uitzicht Neighbourhood Watch were at the scene when Bassett Alarms Officers arrived.

The suspect was taken away by the SAPS and a docket for attempted house break-in and assault was opened against him.

Well done to all involved, it was great team work and fast response that lead to this arrest!
