Elderly couple stabbed and set alight – reward offered for information

The police have offered a R100 000 reward to anyone with information leading to the arrest of the murderers of Melvin and Susanna Lawson, an elderly couple of Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal.

COL. Jay Naicker, a police spokesman said the couple, both 72 years old, was attacked and murdered in the early hours of February 26, 2015 at their home in the Oribi area. They were attacked by an unknown number of suspects. Both victims were stabbed with a sharp object in their necks and their television set was missing. The attackers set fire to the couple’s home before they fled the scene.

Maroela Media reported earlier that Melvin’s body was found in the spare room with about five stab wounds to his neck. Susanna’s body was lying in the hallway. The suspects allegedly poured petrol or paraffin over her and set her alight.

Police are investigating two cases of murder, a case of robbery and a case of arson.
