Lettie (87) and Hendrik van Loggerenberg (77) were attacked and beaten with iron pipes on May 12, 2015 at their smallholding in Western Transvaal near Zeerust as they returned from town.
According to Magriet Duncan, Lettie’s daughter, the three robbers awaited them. Her stepfather got out of the car and asked if he could help them.
They started hitting him with iron pipes on the head until he fell. They ripped Lettie out of her wheelchair and hit her on the back and arms.
Lettie is very weak and fragile. Hendrik regained consciousness and pressed the emergency button on his key. The robbers fled with two cell phones and money.
Lettie was in the intensive care unit in Brakpan until Monday as doctors were concerned about internal injuries due to her weakened state. Fortunately she is doing better.
Nobody has been arrested.
