Eben Etzebeth incident: HRC legal head to be investigated
Eben Etzebeth incident: HRC legal head to be investigated

On 8 October 2019, in response to a question posed by the FF Plus, the HRC confirmed that its national legal head, adv Buang Jones, may no longer speak to the media about the Eben Etzebeth incident, that his actions in this regard will be investigated and that whether he will be allowed to have anything more to do with the case remains to be determined.

This confirms the validity of the FF Plus’s critique last week of Jones’ actions and the HRC’s way of handling the Etzebeth case. On Friday 4 October 2019, the FF Plus stated in a media release:

“The statements made by Mr Buang Jones, the national legal head of the Human Rights Commission (SAHRC), on Thursday during a meeting in Langebaan regarding Eben Etzebeth alleged use of hate speech are extremely premature and biased.”

The FF Plus has reiterated time and again that the HRC must act in the best interests of all South Africans without any bias.

The way in which the HRC handled the Etzebeth case these last few weeks created the impression that they are not fully committed to the cause and that has now been confirmed by the fact that action was taken against Jones. The FF Plus welcomes the action taken by the HRC.
