A 39-year-old woman has been arrested and is expected to appear in court on a murder charge following the fatal stabbing of a 34-year-old woman in Ngangelizwe Township on Tuesday, 02 June 2026.
According to OR Tambo District Commissioner Major General Norman Modishana, the incident occurred at approximately 23:00 on Gcolotela Street, where both the deceased and the suspect resided as tenants in the same premises.
The altercation reportedly stemmed from allegations that the suspect’s boyfriend was involved in a relationship with the deceased. During the argument, the suspect allegedly produced a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times in the upper body. Emergency responders pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
The suspect was apprehended by police on Wednesday, 03 June 2026. She is scheduled to appear before the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 04 June 2026, to face a formal charge of murder.
Major General Modishana condemned the killing in the strongest terms, urging community members to seek non-violent resolutions to interpersonal conflicts.
“People must learn to resolve their problems through peaceful means, as violence is never the solution,” Modishana stated.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident remain ongoing.
