Three male suspects, aged 25, 32, and 42, have been arrested in connection with the hijacking of a courier truck on the N6 highway last week. The incident occurred on Friday, 06 June 2025, at approximately 10:20, while the truck was transporting clothing from East London to Queenstown.
According to police reports, the driver and two colleagues were accosted by three suspects wearing reflector jackets, who signaled the truck to stop. When the driver initially refused, two of the suspects produced firearms, forcing the vehicle to pull over. The assailants then boarded the truck and instructed the driver to divert to Mpongo Park.
Upon arrival, the victims noticed three awaiting vehicles: a brown Toyota Corolla, a white Toyota seven-seater, and a red Honda seven-seater. The suspects proceeded to transfer the cargo of clothing into these vehicles before fleeing the scene.
A case was opened at Macleantown SAPS and transferred to the East London Organised Crime Unit for investigation. Following intelligence-driven operations, a multi-unit task force—including Organised Crime and the Flying Squad—conducted raids on 12 June 2025.
At the first location in NU10, Mdantsane, authorities recovered a brown Toyota Corolla along with stolen goods. A second residence in NU8, Mdantsane, yielded additional stolen items, though the suspect was not present at the time.
A third raid in NU12, Mdantsane, led to the arrest of one suspect, with further stolen goods and a gold Honda vehicle seized. The operation uncovered multiple brands of new sneakers (“tekkies”), ladies’ handbags, clothing, and two vehicles linked to the crime.
The suspects face charges of truck hijacking, armed robbery, and kidnapping. They are expected to appear before the East London Magistrate’s Court soon.
Police confirm that investigations are ongoing.
