The South African Police Service (SAPS) has once again demonstrated its commitment to combating drug-related crimes, with three suspects arrested in separate incidents in Burgersdorp and Aliwal North over the weekend.

Burgersdorp Arrest

On Monday afternoon, 11 August 2025, at approximately 15:00, the Burgersdorp Crime Prevention team acted on a tip-off about a man in possession of tik (crystal meth) traveling in a silver Toyota Avanza from Burgersdorp to Venterstad. Officers intercepted the vehicle and conducted a search, leading to the discovery of the suspected drugs wrapped in a plastic bag in the pockets of a 50-year-old man. He was promptly arrested.

Aliwal North Drug Raids

In a separate operation, members of the Aliwal North K9 Unit, assisted by narcotics detection dog Nero, conducted raids at two houses in Dukathole following intelligence about dagga (cannabis) being sold from the premises.

  • At the first house, officers seized nine zip-lock bags of dagga and arrested a 37-year-old suspect.

  • In an unrelated case at the second house, an additional 56-year-old suspect was apprehended, with police confiscating 11 paper-wrapped packets of dagga.

Police Leadership Commends Efforts

Joe Gqabi District Commissioner, Major General Lindelwa Vellem, praised the swift and coordinated actions of the SAPS members and highlighted the crucial role of community cooperation.

“We thank the public for providing positive information and for not tolerating such conduct in our communities. Together, we make a difference in the fight against crime,” she said.

The suspects are expected to appear in their respective magistrates’ courts soon.
