The Kidnapping Task Team of the Hawks in the Eastern Cape effected a second arrest of a 26-year-old on 26 October 2022 in Kokstad for charges of kidnapping.

This is subsequent to the arrest of a 50-year-old kidnapping suspect during the night of 20 October 2022 at Ngqeleni.

It is alleged that on 19 May 2022 at about 19:30, a 45-year old female was kidnapped by three unknown suspects from her home in Mankosi Location in Ngqeleni.

It is further reported that the victim was a beneficiary of a Road Accident Fund as a result the suspects are alleged to have withdrawn cash, purchased liquor, bought car battery and aluminium window frames using the victim’s bank card.

The victim was allegedly held hostage in Pola BnB at Norwood Township in Mthatha from 19 May 2022 until 24 May 2022 and was rescued by an employee of the BnB.

The victim was prejudiced cash to the value of more than R80 000-00.

During the arrest of the suspect, his firearm and Toyota Hilux bakkie which were used in the commission of crime were seized along with some of the items which were allegedly purchased with the victim’s money.

He is remanded in custody.

The second suspect will appear in court soon and the arrest of one outstanding suspect is imminent.
