Man in court, sickening farm attack, woman shot, raped, children brutalised

On 23 March 2018, a woman (44) and her three children were attacked on a farm in Hankey. The attacker gained entrance by shooting through a glass door. The woman was also shot in the back, then assaulted and raped. The children were brutalised. She was then forced to drive to an ATM to draw money, it was at this moment that she managed to escape.

The 32 year old suspect was arrested in the Nketlana district near the Lesotho border on 28 March 2018. He appeared in the Hankey magistrates court in the Eastern Cape on 10 May 2018. Captain Gerda Swart told maroela media that due to the sexual nature of the attack the suspects name can not be released at this stage. The attacker is charged with rape, house robbery, four charges of attempted murder, four charges of kidnapping, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, theft and robbery with extenuating circumstances.
