The FF Plus paid a visit to Mr Johannes de Lange, a farmer from Kirkwood in the Eastern Cape, in hospital on 8 March 2021, after the incident in which six persons attacked and injured him on his farm.
The party was relieved to learn that Mr De Lange is recovering well and will soon be able to return to his farm and his family.
The FF Plus is concerned about the Eastern Cape farming community and is convinced that certain politicians and political parties’ reckless statements about the land being stolen and expropriation without compensation encourage farm attacks and murders.
Farm attacks, theft and livestock theft have an enormous impact on the Eastern Cape’s food security, economy and job creation.
Some farmers have simply decided to stop all their farming activities, which has resulted in even greater unemployment in rural areas.
It also means that local production is not enough and goods must be sourced from other parts of the country and consequently, prices are higher.
The FF Plus wants to encourage people who live in rural areas to join their local neighbourhood and farm watches as well as community policing forums and to intensify their own personal security measures.
The FF Plus will continue to put pressure on the government to prioritise the safety of the people living in rural areas.
