Farm attack shows that rural safety is not a priority in the Eastern Cape

The blame for farm attacks, like the one that occurred early on the morning of 3 March 2021, on the farm Steenbokvlakte near Kirkwood in the Eastern Cape, must be laid at the door of the ANC government seeing as this kind of crime can be prevented to a large extent if specialist units against farm attacks are established.

The farmer, Mr Johannes de Lange, was seriously injured in the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment in hospital. One of the six assailants was reportedly killed and another was wounded. Two have been apprehended and another two are still on the run.

The FF Plus welcomes the fact that the Kirkwood community wasted no time in helping the police find the alleged assailants. It is still not known whether anything was stolen during the attack.

The rash statements made by the ANC government and other parties with regard to land and expropriation are irresponsible and inflammatory. The FF Plus has for a long time insisted that specialist units, tasked with ensuring the safety of farmers, must be established with the necessary support.

The FF Plus will continue to object to farm attacks and general crime in the Eastern Cape and will keep putting pressure on the relevant authorities to ensure the safety of residents, particularly in rural areas.
