It was with shock and horror that we woke up to the news on June 16, 2015 that three policemen stationed at Roodepoort SAPS were involved in a horrific accident with an alleged drunk driver.
According to the SAPS spokesperson the police vehicle burst out in flames and two policemen burnt to death in the car. The third member managed to get out but is in a critical condition in hospital – he was airlifted. A tow truck driver and a reaction officer from another security company tried in vain to rescue the two trapped members. Respect to you!
The driver of the BMW who drove into them did not sustain ANY injuries but was arrested on a charge of murder and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Four policemen have died in motor vehicle accidents in two days. On Sunday night two Colonels also passed away in an accident on the N14 highway. Our deepest condolences go to the family, friends and colleagues of the members who passed away. Our prayers are with the surviving member who is still fighting for his life.
To the alleged drunken driver – well he has to live with the consequences of his actions knowing that he killed two people and ripped families apart!
