Check credentials of security officer and company before making use of services

During the early hours of March 5, 2015 the Drift Reaction cc control centre received a burglar alarm signal from a Hole in One Avenue premises in Ruimsig, Roodepoort. Numerous Tactical units were dispatched.

The units drove to the main gate of the premises for the security officer (employed by another company) to open, but after a lot of hooting, shouting and other units moving to the back of the venue, they could not find the security officer. Thinking that he might be harmed or tied up, the tactical officers lifted the gate off the rail to gain entry. They thoroughly searched the premises and found that suspects had broken into several rooms.

After more than an hour the security officer came strolling towards them, completely unaware about the incident. He could not even give an explanation for his whereabouts, did not have his manager’s number and also could not provide his company’s control centre number! One number he gave our officers to phone his “boss” was his own cell phone number! Make sure when you employ a security officer that he has adequate back-up, trained, legally registered with PSIRA, and a SA Citizen.

Check his and his company’s credentials before you make use of their services. This is the second incident at this premises and during both incidents the security officers could not really give reasonable explanations about what happened on site!

Unfortunately if we have to give a report to the insurance company we have to tell the truth and they will not be too happy to pay claims if they know these facts!
