Eastern Cape police, together with the Humansdorp traffic department have arrested two men for suspected possession of stolen livestock and / or products, following the discovery of 31 sheep crammed into a taxi.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basil Seekoei says officials noticed the suspicious looking near Jeffreys Bay on Saturday, and followed it.
He says the minibus was later pulled over in Kabega Park, Port Elizabeth, and members found the sheep, of which 14 have already suffocated, inside the vehicle.
Seekoei says the two suspects, aged 45 and 50, were arrested at the scene and will appear in court soon.
He says police suspect that the sheep were stolen in the Kareedouw area, and affected livestock owners can contact the police’s stock theft unit.
