A total of 1 175 rhinos were poached in South Africa in 2015, Environment Minister Edna Molewa said on Thursday.
Of these, 826 were in the Kruger National Park.
This compared with 1 215 at the end of 2014.
“For the first time in a decade, the poaching situation in South Africa has actually stabilised,” said Molewa in a briefing in Pretoria.
“In the face of an increased and relentless rise of poaching activity into protected areas, this is great news and cause for optimism,” she said.
