One hundred unemployed candidates have been selected by Sun City Resort in the North- West Province to complete a one-year National Certificate in Food and Beverage Service Learnership programme. The total cost of the programme is more than R6-million inclusive of, education costs and stipends.

The hundred learners are made out of 59 women and 41 men aged 18-35 drawn from the communities in the province.

The one-year programme will be completed through a combination of knowledge attainment through skills development and work placement learning, facilitated by Reach Summit.

A Portfolio of Evidence will be developed throughout the year and learners will undergo formative assessment monthly. The programme will culminate in a Final Integrated Summative Assessment theory and practical.

“This is the first time that Sun City has run a programme for unemployed learners, and successful candidates will be placed in our Food & Beverage Department on a fixed term basis where they will be exposed to practical work experience across the business,” said Brett Hoppé, the resort’s general manager.

“Sun City hopes to empower more people from its local communities within the North West.”

Upon successful completion of the learnership in June 2023, qualified candidates will be placed in Sun City’s database for future employment opportunities.
