On Monday 4 October 2010, The Expresso Morning Show made its debut as SABC 3’s brand-new breakfast show. Over the past ten years, the brand has grown into one of the most formidable names in South African television through a myriad of fun, informative and interactive segments.
Expresso is famous for showcasing the very best of lifestyle and entertainment Mzansi has to offer and includes on-trend fashion and beauty advice, comedy, interviews with celebrities, live gigs from SA’s top musical acts, green awareness and the latest from the worlds of gastronomy, gaming and gadgets.
Captivating conversations between the series’ vibrant pool of presenters and doctors, opinionated journalists, chefs, sport fanatics, stylists and ‘techies’ keeps viewers informed and entertained through enlightening and witty conversation and the show’s feel-good atmosphere sets the perfect tone to kick-start anyone’s day.
Over the past decade, the South African Film & Television Award-winning series has seen an array of local and international guests sharing their feel-good stories with audiences. Expresso has played host to celebrities like Katherine Jenkins, The Beach Boys, Calum Scott, Patrizio, Dr Raymond Rey, Bold and the Beautiful’s Katherine Kelly Lang, Brian McKnight and Days Of Our Lives’ Arianne Zucker, Drake Hogestyn and Galen Gering and continues to connect South African audiences to the world stage.
More recently, Expresso was nominated for a 2020 Content Innovation Award in the Best Use Of Social Media category as it continues to successfully engage with audiences both on the small screen and mobile. Other highlights include the famous Expresso Frenchie wedding and various other travel, food and entertainment segments.
“Watching Expresso grow over the past 10 years has made me incredibly proud. Presenters Katlego Maboe, Graeme Richards, Kuhle Adams, Jamie-Lee Domburg, Thabiso Makhubela and Ryle De Morny each add their own unique flair to the breakfast show and have become like family for the thousands of households which welcome them into their home every morning.
Katlego Maboe, who has been a host on Expresso since its first day on air says “Being part of the Expresso team for the past ten years has been one of the most special and honoured time of my life.” He continues “I have enjoyed every moment of waking South Africans up with energy and with a smile and I truly hope that South Africa has felt the passion that every single one of us, as a team, puts into the show to make it what it is. Thank you for all the support and we look forward to the next ten years.”
Graeme Richards, who has been on the show for seven and a half years, says “I feel so privileged that this show has been one of the biggest parts of my life. It has introduced me to some of the most remarkable people alive, so many of my heroes, as well as individuals who have completely shifted my view on the world and myself, and it has given me a crew that have become my family. Of the ten years, this last has probably been the most challenging so I am so proud of my entire team for pulling us through.”
Meanwhile, Kuhle Adams says “The Expresso Morning Show has played a vital role in setting the mood of the day for millions of South Africans. Growing up watching the presenters treat each other like a family while being entertained and informed sparked my dream of being a broadcaster.” She adds “I never imaged that it would be a reality to work with such a vibrant, passionate and loving team as one of the new, young, family members. It has been an honor to experience this ride this past year (including the presenter search period). Happy birthday Expresso, continue to grow and nurturing the ‘Feel Goodness’ in all of us.”
Jamie-Lee Domburg says “What an amazing journey for The Expresso Morning Show as it celebrates its 10th birthday. I am so grateful that I get to be a part of the family and waking the nation up with positivity and a feel good vibe. Wishing the show many more years of laughter and love.”
