Last week’s episode of Tropika Island of Treasure Curaçao saw the first Tropika Long Life ceremony taking place where #TeamCoolRed came out on top earning themselves a valuable advantage in the game. The episode also ended with a whole lot of drama going down between Kay Sibiya and his #TeamPeach teammate, Caldine Wyngaard, which gained momentum in last night’s episode.

The first team challenge in last night’s episode was water conservation-related and required concentration, speed, stamina and delicacy from all teams. The challenge saw #TeamTropical and #TeamCoolRed disqualified, leaving a gap for #TeamPeach to swoop in and take the win.

The second team challenge consisted of two stages. The first stage required the teams to retrieve a set of balls from a net hanging above them using a pipe before knocking down six Tropika bottles representing the other teams in the second stage. The remaining bottles represent the amount of points the team adds to the leader board. The challenge clearly showed viewers the social aspect of the game and just how important alliances are this season. Ultimately, #TeamOrange and #TeamTropical found themselves at the bottom and both faced elimination.

In the elimination challenge, memory was tested as Katlego Maboe, host of this season, showed the two teams up for elimination a series of sequences. Each team was equipped with a cube representing each of the Tropika flavours and were tasked with remembering which flavour came next in the sequence. Unfortunately, Bouwer Bosch and Janeske Rademan #TeamOrange found themselves losing the challenge and became the first team to be eliminated from the show.

Now, Bouwer Bosch and Janeske Rademan open up about their Tropika Island of Treasure experience after their elimination from the show:

Who did you hope would be your partner in Tropika Island of Treasure Curaçao?

Bouwer:                 I really hoped to team up with Janeske. From the get go she looked like she had a fun personality and seemed like someone who would always give her best. Her audition video was very funny and I liked her from the beginning. Lucky for me I got the privilege to team up with her!

Janeske:                 I had my eye on Bouwer Bosch or Nadia Jaftha.

What was the biggest highlight about your time on the show?

Bouwer:                 I got to meet some of the coolest people in SA.  It’s not every day that you get the opportunity to spend so much time with strangers and people from all walks of life.  It was awesome being in the middle of nowhere on an incredibly beautiful island with people from your own country. You appreciate your country and the people in it so much when you get to spend time away for a while. Getting perspective is such a blessing. The friendships we made on this adventure will always be dear and special.

Janeske:                 Meeting amazing people that made a significant impact in my life. If it wasn’t for the opportunity that Tropika gave me, I would have never got the privilege of getting to know so many hard working and incredible people.

Do you wish you had done anything differently?

Bouwer:                 Yes, definitely.  I would have listened more to how the games work and not let things that were happening off-camera (the social aspect of the game) affect me so much in the game and during challenges.  I would just approach it with more focus; eat less Coco Pops in the morning; work out more and get physically ready.  I would definitely not want a different partner. Janeske was the best ever.  It’s not always about winning, it’s about looking good when losing.  When Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and 50cent also fell out of the first rounds in their separate seasons they also looked good, and look where they are today – taking over the world.

Janeske:                 Yes, I wish I didn’t take everything so personally and just played the game like a warrior.

What moment stands out for you while you were on the island?

Bouwer:                 There was one epic night where we were all having dinner on the beach and there was a local band playing music and entertaining all the guests.  The next moment the vocalist started walking around with his microphone making people sing some of the songs.  Caldine and Simphiwe (with their amazing voices) sang as well and people freaked out.  All of sudden Caldine told the band that Simphiwe and I must go and perform songs as well.  Simphiwe went first and absolutely smashed it with her song while everyone was dancing. I went up to perform after her and it was honestly the most fun I have had in a long time.  Apart from Namibië, this was my first international show, and to be fair and modest, it was a pretty full crowd – at least 20 people.  You know what they say: less is more.  Justin Bieber also started out performing for 20 people.  It was just one of those epic impromptu nights where everyone just danced and had the most fun on the beach under the stars.

Janeske:                 When Bouwer and I went on a jetski and snorkelling trip. This was when I was an over achiever driving the jetski, ramping a very big wave. The jetski became airborne, tilted and I jumped what felt like 3 metres to land in the ocean. I fractured my toe that day and walked like a penguin for the rest of the trip.

What surprised you most about yourself being on the show?

Bouwer:                 I am not 23 anymore.  In my mind and my heart I felt 23. But as soon as the challenges started my body reminded me that I’m 35.  The fact that I can’t really throw a ball anymore surprised me. I thought I still had it in me. On a positive note, I’m surprised that I went on stage to sing my song with Simphiwe. Thank you Simphiwe for encouraging me to do it.  She said “I’ll do it if you will do it”. That helped because we all wanted to hear her sing.

Janeske:                 How competitive I am! I never realised I was that competitive.

Why should people continue to watch Tropika Island of Treasure for the remainder of the season?

Bouwer:                 I honestly don’t know, because the prettiest two people are now out! What’s the use?  Hehe kidding.  These shows are super epic. Trust me when I say there’s a whole lot of drama to come while the challenges become even more difficult – so if you want one of the most exhilarating seasons of Tropika Island of Treasure ever, you need to keep watching all the way to the finale…

Janeske:                 As Bouwer has said, this season will definitely be full of drama. This season is the result of when you put so many different personalities together and see how that affects the way the game is played. Who will be the villain? You’ll have to stay tuned to find out…

What else can people expect to see from you for the rest of 2020?

Bouwer:                 More music. I’m also trying to branch out on more projects that I want to do to help build South Africa into the best country ever.  I’m also kick starting my love for standup comedy this year so I’m very excited about that.

Janeske:                 I’m trying to focus more on performing this year. I’m launching my one woman show “Hester se hoekie” in winter, going back to where it all started for me – the theatre. I want to create more this year. Watch this space.
