This tome promises to bring this 20th-century South African colossus to life. Written by Michael Cardo and based on unrestricted access to Oppenheimer’s private papers and interviews with family members and close associates, the biography explores the places, people, events and relationships that shaped the magnate’s life. Cardo also examines Oppenheimer’s legacy and traces the evolution of a dynasty. This full-scale biography of Harry Oppenheimer is an exploration of the forces that have shaped South Africa and the role of one of its most influential figures who helped propel the process of reform.
