New York City, NY – The NYCxDESIGN Festival (May 15-21, 2025) served as a major platform for designers Qihang Zhang and Tina (Hua Hsuan) Tsung to unveil their innovative IoT lamp, Radiant Embrace. Its display included the INFINITE WEAVING exhibition (May 16-18) and the RE-CRAFT exhibition (May 18-20), which was part of the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF 2025). This confirmed Radiant Embrace’s key role in the global design landscape. RE-CRAFT, an exhibition highlighting sustainability, culture, and craftsmanship, perfectly complemented Radiant Embrace’s design philosophy.
More than just a lamp, Radiant Embrace brings ancient artistry into the modern home. It transforms traditional cultural patterns into a modern lighting solution, blending sustainability, fine craftsmanship, and advanced 3D printing. The lamp draws its soul from Taiwan’s 1950s and 60s, capturing the intricate beauty of old iron window grilles and embossed glass. The piece elegantly weaves in the Japanese Shippou motif, symbolizing harmony. It also includes the Chinese begonia pattern, representing resilience. It’s crafted from 3D-printed P-PETG, a durable plastic born from recycled water bottles. It casts a warm, inviting glow. This lamp isn’t static. Its light adapts intuitively to your voice and touch. It shifts subtly with its surroundings. This work offers a powerful statement about design’s future. Here, cultural legacy and cutting-edge tech don’t just coexist; they beautifully intertwine.
Tina (Hua Hsuan) Tsung, a California-based, award-winning designer, excels in interaction and user experience design, especially with socially conscious projects. Her expertise was recognized early, notably with a Red Dot Design Concept winner award in 2015 for her work on the conceptual sustainable ecosystem for Vans’ EXPLORE project. With a unique perspective shaped by her background in life sciences and product design, Tsung is committed to inclusive, emotionally resonant design that connects culture and utility. She emphasizes, “Design, in my view, goes beyond mere aesthetics. It offers a lens for societal understanding, a bridge linking cultural nuance and scalable systems, and a practical way to make sustainability actionable.”
Qihang Zhang, as Senior Product Designer at Chartmetric, works at the intersection of AI, music technology, and emotional storytelling. He led the development of Talent Search, an AI-powered tool used by global record labels. Beyond his work at Chartmetric, Zhang co-created Memory Land, an iF Design Award-winning interactive app focused on personal memories and storytelling.
Beyond their individual projects, both Tsung and Zhang actively shape the design world. They serve on juries, mentor new talent, and help steer the future of design, always prioritizing inclusion, clarity, and empathy. Their joint work on Radiant Embrace perfectly illustrates this approach: it’s a design that effortlessly crosses borders and disciplines, truly meaningful on both a cultural and social level.
