Zapmed, a South African telehealth company focused on medically guided weight loss, has acquired Contro (South Africa), a leading provider of discreet healthcare for stigmatised health conditions. As part of the agreement, Zapmed will be combining its platform with Contro’s proprietary telehealth software from the UK, which will power both the Zapmed and Contro brands across South Africa and the continent.

“This is an important step for us,” said Craig White, founder of Zapmed. “Zapmed was built to make weight loss more personal and relevant, while shining a light on health needs that are often kept in the shadows. By welcoming Contro into our family, we can offer patients seamless access to broader, professional care, whether it’s weight loss or sensitive health issues, always delivered with empathy, discretion, and without stigma.”

Alex Schmid, CEO of Contro, added: “From the start, Contro has strived to provide discreet, affordable and convenient access to treatment for stigmatised health conditions. The sale of Contro allows our original vision to be carried forward by the Zapmed team and developed further with additional service offerings, technology enhancement and a continued commitment to patient-centered care.”

For patients, services will resume without interruption. In time, both Zapmed and Contro users will benefit from a unified, easy-to-use platform that discreetly delivers trusted healthcare to their door.

Zapmed believes care should always be convenient, judgment-free, and human. This partnership marks the next step in building that vision.”
