The Innovation Hub, a subsidiary of the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency, strategically tasked with driving innovation in the Gauteng province announced the appointment of a new acting Chief Executive Officer. The Board of Directors approved the appointment of Ms Nothile Mpisi, effective from 1 October 2022, following the transfer of Advocate Pieter Holl to pursue other ventures within the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency.
Adv Holl was initially appointed as acting Chief Executive Officer of the Innovation Hub from 28 June 2018 to 30 November 2018 and appointed as the CEO on 1 December 2018. An advocate by training, Peter Holl has since been appointed as Group Executive of Legal Advisory Services and Company Secretariat for the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency with effect from 1 October 2022. Holl officially handed over the reins to Mpisi during a strategic board meeting the previous week, during which Mpisi thanked him for his immense contribution to the organisation and applauded his numerous successes while at the helm of the agency.
“Advocate Holl has greatly expanded The Innovation Hub’s reach, impacting the lives of hundreds of young entrepreneurs from previously disadvantaged groups by providing business support and giving much-needed support to innovators, contributing to public and private service delivery efforts by providing innovative solutions that are developed by entrepreneurs and tenants. He has managed to empower through the skills development programme the graduates through the mobile repairer’s programme, Internship’s programme and youth work readiness programme,” she said.
“It is now my great honour to lead our extraordinary team members, entrepreneurs, and tenants into the next phase of The Innovation Hub’s journey as we work towards achieving a better South Africa for all. While in the role of acting CEO, I hope to continue building on the incredible work that Advocate Holl has done in his time with us, having raised the Science and Technology Park to new heights, and would like to offer him my sincere thanks for his hard work and dedication.”
Board Chairperson Advocate Kgotso Maja added, “The Innovation Hub is poised to grow from strength to strength in the coming years as we seek to reach a greater number of aspiring young innovators, revitalise the Science and Technology Park as an area of innovation within the City of Tshwane Research and Development Commercial Nodes consisting of key innovations institutions in the Gauteng Province and to mentor the next group of world-changing businessmen and women. We are sure that Mpisi will continue this sharp upward trajectory in the coming months while we search for a new permanent CEO.”
Mpisi has been with The Innovation Hub since 2015 and was recommended by The Innovation Hub Board. The board noted that her years of experience with the organisation, her in-depth knowledge of all its operations, her impressive credentials, and her proven ability to lead large teams made her an ideal and highly capable candidate to steer the organisation forward.
Mpisi is currently a Doctoral candidate in Business Administration, holds a Master of Business Administration, completed her Postgraduate Diploma in Management from Regent Business School, and has a Diploma in Marketing and Marketing Management from the Durban University of Technology.
Before her appointment as General Manager of eKasiLabs in 2019, Mpisi held a Programme Manager position within The Innovation Hub. She has over 21 years of experience in the private and public sectors, 12 of which were spent in business incubation and nine in enterprise development.
Mpisi has also served as a trainee Business Analyst for Absa Group Limited, a Project Coordinator for New Venture Africa, Managing Director for NJM Training, and a Strategy Coach for Raizcorp.
