Legal Practitioners Fidelity Fund Wraps Up Year of Successful Community Engagements

[Johannesburg, December 2025] As the year comes to an end, the Legal Practitioners Fidelity Fund (LPFF) reflects on a powerful journey of insightful engagements, education, and public protection.

Through its National Imbizos Campaign, the LPFF, in collaboration with the Legal Practice Council (LPC) and the Legal Practitioners Indemnity Insurance Fund (LPIIF), travelled across the country to bring crucial information directly to communities. The aim throughout the year was clear: to ensure that every South African understands how to report dishonest lawyers and how to claim compensation when their money or property has been stolen or misused. From KwaZulu-Natal to Limpopo, and from the Eastern Cape to Gauteng, the message remained the same: should you suspect or have evidence that a legal practitioner has acted dishonestly with your money, there is recourse.

This year’s imbizos became far more than information sessions. They grew into honest, and often emotional conversations about real experiences involving inheritance disputes, property transfers that went wrong, and trust funds that never reached their rightful owners. For many who attended, it was the first time learning of the LPFF’s existence, as well as its mandate. The presence of the LPFF, LPC, and LPIIF in communities offered reassurance and clarity, especially to those who did not know where to turn to for help.

The nation-wide Imbizos drew strong participation throughout the year. Starting in Zebediela, Limpopo, and moving around the country with sessions in strategically selected communities in all nine provinces. The campaign reached over 2200 community members, highlighting the success of the LPFF’s objective which was to increase public awareness of the Fund’s role, and the urgent need for accessible legal education across remote communities.

Speaking at one of the imbizos, the LPFF CEO Mr. Motlatsi Molefe reflected on the significance of the campaign, emphasising the Fund’s commitment to South Africans, “Our commitment goes beyond compliance. We engage directly with communities because people deserve to understand their rights, and they deserve institutions that show up for them. When someone has been let down by a legal practitioner, they are often hurt, confused, and unsure where to turn. The LPFF is here to restore hope, dignity, and ensure that no one walks that journey alone”

Throughout the campaign, LPFF, LPC and LPIIF representatives took time to break down the claims process in simple practical terms; how to identify misconduct, what evidence to gather, and how the Fund assesses claims. Information was presented in local languages, allowing communities to engage freely and confidently.

The impact has been evident as more communities now know how to report suspected misconduct, more individuals understand that dishonesty by a legal practitioner is not the end of the road, and more South Africans feel empowered through accessible legal knowledge.

These Imbizos also highlighted that protecting the public is a shared responsibility. Local leaders and members of the legal profession joined many of the sessions, reinforcing the idea that integrity in the legal sector is best upheld when everyone plays their part.

As the LPFF closes out a year of meaningful engagement, the Fund remains committed to expanding its reach and strengthening public trust. Whether in villages, townships, or cities, the LPFF will continue ensuring that South Africans understand their rights and know where to turn when they need help.
Looking ahead, the LPFF is excited to continue the nationwide imbizos, with the aim of reaching some of the most remote areas around the country.
