The African bank recently donated 10 laptops to a local skills development and disaster management NPO, known as the Volunteer Ministers Africa. They did this to support the NPO in its initiative to provide free skills development to the community, and to continue sanitizing the Country’s covid hotspots to combat the 3rd wave.
The event, held this week, began with a presentation from the Volunteer Ministers showcasing their enduring work on the frontlines of covid-19 for that 400 + days and the thousands of people they have managed to train during this time.
The Trade Area Manager for African Bank, Mr. Ashley Peters, next took the stage and gave a powerful speech. He emphasized why African Bank found it important to support the Volunteer Ministers and how it is the only such organization they have considered funding. He said, “African Bank is a humanitarian bank. Giving back to the community is very important to us. When I saw the incredible work that the Volunteer Ministers are doing on the front lines, saving lives, working hard every day and the empowerment they provide to people of ALL religions, of ALL walks of life with their skills development training, I wanted to see what we can do.
The Volunteer Ministers have not only been risking their lives daily, combating this deadly virus; they have also been empowering communities with their free skills program to help them rebuild their lives.
“We want to support the expansion of this educational aspect, because it is so important for our community. Thus we decided to donate laptops so the Association can equip more training teams. We also wanted to support the volunteers with a free financial literacy training, as everybody needs some basic information on how finances work in the everyday world.” added Mr. Peters.
Mr. Peters then conducted the laptop handover and was met with roaring cheers from the grateful volunteers who were honored to be receiving such a donation from the AFRICAN BANK.
Public Affairs Director for the Volunteer Ministers, Sandile Hlayisi, stated “This is the first corporation to ever do this for us and honestly we are at a loss for words. It’s still unbelievable that they chose us to offer this donation. These laptops will help us a lot in delivering this skills program to remote areas that are far away from any of our facilities. From the bottom of our hearts, we are really grateful to African Bank for this wonderful surprise.”
“To add to the great donation, Mr. Philip Lategan from Empower Hospitality, generously provided laptop bags. Mr. Lategan’s gesture was also much appreciated. “Added Hlayisi.
For many months, the Volunteer Ministers have volunteered daily and toiled for over a million hours, even putting their lives at risk to ensure that the country’s most vulnerable, frontline workers, emergency services, government, essential and those hardest hit by COVID, remain safe throughout.
To date, the volunteers have donated over a million hours of service to the country during this time, decontaminating over 65, 000 buildings and over 1, 2 million taxis , buses, train stations, ambulances and more to curb the spread of the virus.
They have also trained thousands on their Tools for Life skills program that was developed by L. Ron Hubbard to enable anyone in society to have practical solutions to everyday problems.
After handing over the laptops, Mr. Ashley Peters, Trade Area Manager for African Bank, who had been instrumental in making this donation happen, announced that African bank is going to work together with the Volunteer Ministers to bring financial literacy and skills development to the masses and change lives together.
