4 SUREFIRE ways to becoming UNSTUCK

Most entrepreneurs and professionals have been there … the mid-year hiatus. Either you’re not where you thought you would be by now and your goals are starting to appear unattainable, or you’re on track but feeling a little demotivated. You’re not alone, this time of the year many people are feeling tired, perhaps disheartened or just plain stuck. In this article, Jacqueline van Rooijen, Owner and Co-founder of SkillsX, shares 4 surefire ways to get you unstuck and back on track for the final 6-month sprint of the year!

Recalibrate your Goals:

We all know goal-setting is a powerful practice in unlocking and accelerating momentum, so too is recalibrating goals, and tweaking deadlines and outcomes to counteract any unforeseen changes to your plans. Life changes faster than the speed of thought these days so it’s very empowering to revisit the goals and frameworks you created at the beginning of the year. It will help you to critically assess and recalibrate your inputs and outcomes, according to what still needs to be achieved by the end of the year. You cannot control what you cannot foresee and there might be things that might have or could still blindside you. if you’re working off an outdated plan for the year, take a day to recalibrate, reframe and reset – you will be glad you took the time!

Enrol in a Short Course:

As someone who is extremely passionate about personal development, I know firsthand how incredibly powerful it can be to enrich yourself by taking a short online course, for example, SuperSkilling. We designed this online course to help people get unstuck, reinspired and SuperSkilled for the next leg of the race. When you invest in yourself, your career and your life, you are able to unleash true impetus. Enabling your personal growth will equip you with fresh insights, strategies and frameworks and is sure to get you back on track and able to tackle the latter half of the year with renewed enthusiasm and vigour.

Find a Mentor:

This may sound easier than it is in practice – not everyone has access to amazing leaders or specialists in their industry. Here’s the thing though, your mentor doesn’t necessarily need to be someone you know. The role of a mentor is to help you think through challenges, both in life and business. With this in mind, you can source a mentor from the many thought leaders globally. Do your research, find a thought leader or influencer that speaks into your industry or reality then follow them, saturate your thinking with theirs, use their intellectual frameworks to filter your challenges and questions through and soon you’ll realize that your thinking is starting to grow and shift – exactly like it would if you had a personal mentor.

Do something for YOU:

When you’re feeling stuck, it’s so easy to flounder and wheelspin, particularly when you are totally focused on the output that needs to be achieved – whether it’s personal or professional. A great way to stop spiralling is to throw yourself into a project or activity that brings you joy. Whether it’s writing, making music, reading, fishing, working in the garden, working out – you name it – find something that truly brings you joy and then DO IT. Often when we focus on something new, it allows us to process peripheral information and put things into context. Regardless of the secondary benefits, doing something that you love can reignite meaning in your life and thereby, reactivate your zest and anticipation for what could come next AND you’ll have fun while doing it.

Jacqui believes that no one has to stay stuck. The last few years have been a testimony to what we can overcome, and now it’s time to THRIVE not just survive. Jacqui concludes, “The next 6 months could be your BEST 6 months, the only difference is what YOU do.”
