WESTERN CAPE — Western Cape police have launched a major investigation into a deadly Gugulethu shooting that claimed five lives and left one person injured during the early hours of Monday. Detectives attached to the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit are actively pursuing all available leads regarding the fatal incident at a residence in NY 50.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, medical personnel declared four men and one woman, ranging in age from 19 to 23, deceased due to multiple gunshot wounds. A 20-year-old female survivor who sustained gunshot injuries was urgently transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
Preliminary investigative findings indicate that two unidentified armed men forcibly entered the home by kicking open the front door. The suspects reportedly demanded a firearm before opening fire on the occupants. They subsequently fled the scene and remain at large.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Major General Luyanda Damoyi, has strongly condemned the brutal attack. Major General Damoyi has explicitly directed detectives to exhaust all investigative avenues to ensure those responsible are apprehended and brought to justice.
To prevent further violence and provide reassurance to the local community, additional operational police members have been deployed in the area while the investigation remains active. Authorities have confirmed that the motive for the attack is yet to be established.
