WESTERN CAPE – A George burglary suspect has been arrested and a stolen firearm successfully recovered following an intensive, multi-agency investigation in the Garden Route District. The 37-year-old man is currently in custody and is scheduled to appear before the George Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 27 July 2026.

The operation commenced on Friday, 24 July 2026, when George police members, alongside the Outeniqua K9 Unit and Noll’s Halt Farm Watch, responded to a reported premises burglary at De Vlugt in Herold, outside George. The incident had occurred earlier in the week, prompting a targeted investigative response.

During the search of the vicinity, investigators discovered a safe concealed in a bush near the original crime scene. Inside the safe, authorities recovered the stolen firearm as well as an undisclosed amount of cash. Forensic and investigative procedures positively linked the 37-year-old suspect to the break-in.

He is currently facing formal charges of housebreaking, theft, and the unlawful possession of a firearm.

Garden Route District police management publicly commended all participating role-players for their decisive efforts in bringing the perpetrator to justice. In a statement regarding the outcome, police management emphasized that this arrest and the subsequent recovery of the stolen items serve as a strong testament to the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between law enforcement and the local community.

The suspect remains in police custody pending his formal court appearance.
