LIMPOPO — Authorities in the Waterberg District have taken a 25-year-old man into custody on an attempted murder charge following a tense firearm incident at a private residence in Ga-Molekana, within the Mahwelereng policing jurisdiction.
The confrontation reportedly began on the evening of Sunday, 12 July 2026, at approximately 18:05. The suspect initially visited the 31-year-old victim at her home. When she declined his request to stay the night, he allegedly departed, only to return shortly afterward wielding a firearm, which he then directed at her.
In a bid to protect herself, the woman barricaded herself inside her bedroom. Despite this precaution, a gunshot was discharged from outside the room. The suspect then allegedly breached the bedroom door, entering the space where he urgently begged the victim not to involve law enforcement. Following this plea, he remained at the property for the duration of the night.
By the morning of Monday, 13 July 2026, the individual had vacated the premises. Upon being alerted to the situation, investigators launched a trace operation that quickly resulted in the suspect’s apprehension.
Confirming the developments, a police spokesperson stated that the detained individual is currently in custody and is scheduled to stand before the Mokerong Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, to formally answer to the charge of attempted murder. Authorities continue to process the case for prosecution.
