DINAWENG – A 47-year-old stepfather has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of the repeated rape of his 8-year-old stepdaughter in Dinaweng, marking the conclusion of a case that authorities described as successfully prosecuted through meticulous investigation and professional collaboration.
The breakthrough in the matter occurred in May 2025 when the young victim disclosed the abuse to her school teacher. The child revealed that the assaults occurred when her mother was heavily intoxicated. According to the evidence presented, the accused would wait until the child was asleep, forcibly cover her mouth to muffle her cries, and then rape her.
Upon receiving the disclosure, the teacher immediately contacted law enforcement. A rape case was registered, and police responded swiftly, resulting in the arrest of the 47-year-old accused.
The conviction was secured through the dedicated work of Detective Warrant Officer Seale of the South African Police Service (SAPS), who conducted a thorough investigation. State Advocate Leeuw of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) worked in collaboration with the investigating officer to present a comprehensive case before the court.
The court found the accused guilty on all counts of rape and imposed a sentence of life imprisonment, removing him from society.
Authorities have welcomed the sentence, noting that the outcome reflects the importance of victims coming forward and the effectiveness of coordinated efforts between police and prosecution services in securing convictions in serious criminal matters.
