KOFFIEFONTEIN — A 23-year-old Koffiefontein rape suspect is in custody and scheduled to appear in the Koffiefontein Magistrate’s Court tomorrow following his apprehension with the assistance of local residents. The arrest directly stems from a police appeal for information regarding a severe sexual assault that took place in the area earlier this week.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that the suspect, who resides in the Donkerhoek area, was taken into custody on June 30, 2026, at approximately 07:20. His capture was the direct result of public cooperation after authorities released a request for information concerning the incident, which originally occurred in the early hours of June 27.

The complainant, a resident of Sondela Street in the Mandela Location, reported that the ordeal began around 03:30 on the night of the incident. According to her statement, she was walking home from the Bloushop Tavern when she encountered an unknown man. The suspect allegedly asked her to accompany him, and upon her refusal, he physically overpowered her.

The accused reportedly tripped the victim, dragging her to a hill adjacent to the road where he raped her under a tree. Following this initial attack, the suspect forced her to walk past the Donkerhoek area to a nearby gravel road, where he raped her a second time.

After the second assault, the suspect fled the scene, leaving the victim stranded but instructing her to return to her residence. The victim complied, went back to her home, and waited until daylight to formally report the dual rapes to the police, triggering the investigation that ultimately led to the suspect’s arrest.
