QUMBU — Police have announced a successful Qumbu stock theft arrest, apprehending two local men after recovering 23 animals valued at approximately R30,000. The operation follows a break-in at a rural kraal early Monday morning, resulting in the swift tracing of the suspects and the return of the branded livestock to its rightful owner.

The incident originated on Monday, 22 June 2026, at approximately 01:00, when thieves targeted a kraal situated in the Nkonkweni locality. According to police reports, the perpetrators made off with 21 sheep and two goats. Acting on intelligence regarding the missing animals, officers tracked the suspects to the Tyuma locality within the Gungqwane A/A area later that same day.

Upon apprehension, authorities confirmed that all the stolen animals were in the suspects’ possession. The recovered livestock, carrying an estimated value of R30,000, was successfully returned to the original owner. Authorities noted that the presence of clear branding marks on the animals significantly streamlined the identification and handover process.

The two accused individuals, aged 49 and 50, are both residents of the Tyuma locality. They are currently facing formal charges of contravening the Stock Theft Act and are scheduled to make their first appearance at the Qumbu Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 24 June 2026.
