GQEBERHA — Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the Gqeberha quadruple murder that took place in the Kwadwesi suburb, following a major breakthrough by the Provincial Serious Violent Crime Unit. The men are facing multiple charges after a masked gang opened fire inside a residential home, killing four people and wounding two others.
The deadly attack occurred on the evening of June 6, 2026, at approximately 20:40. According to police reports, a group of masked males forced their way into a residence located on Mti Street in Govan Mbeki, Kwadwesi. The gunmen shot and killed four occupants: a 41-year-old man and three women aged 26, 36, and 41.
Two additional women, aged 39 and 50, survived the barrage of gunfire but sustained gunshot wounds during the incident. Before fleeing the scene, the assailants robbed the victims, making off with their cellular phones.
SAPS Kwadwesi initially registered four counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder at the local police station. The complex investigation was subsequently handed over to the Eastern Cape’s Provincial Serious Violent Crime Unit. After an extensive probe yielded a breakthrough, the specialized unit successfully tracked down and apprehended the four male suspects on Friday, June 19, 2026. The arrested men are between the ages of 20 and 34.
The accused made their first brief court appearance at the New Brighton Magistrates Court on June 22, 2026. They remain in custody as the case has been postponed to June 29, 2026, when formal bail applications are scheduled to be heard.
