LIMPOPO — A Limpopo court has handed down a 16-year direct imprisonment sentence to Molatodi Malope Emmanuel following his conviction for an aggravated robbery. The 24-year-old was formally sentenced on Monday, 22 June 2026, by the Nebo Magistrate’s Court for the charge of robbery with aggravating circumstances.
In addition to the lengthy prison term, the court invoked Section 103(2) of the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000, officially declaring Emmanuel unfit to possess any firearms.
The charges originated from a violent afternoon attack that took place on Friday, 16 August 2024. At approximately 14:00 in the Mathibeng Section of Manganeng, Emmanuel ambushed a 19-year-old female victim who was walking through the area.
Armed with a knife, the accused threatened the teenager, forcefully twisted her left arm, and struck her with a stone. During the assault, he snatched her wallet, which contained R2,100 in cash, a bank card, and her identity document, before fleeing the scene with the stolen property.
Law enforcement responded swiftly to the incident, and a criminal case was immediately opened at the Sekhukhune Police Station. Detectives tracked Emmanuel to his home, arresting him at his residence at approximately 20:00 on the same day as the attack.
Detective Sergeant Michael Mothapo, the lead investigating officer, successfully argued against the accused’s release on bail. As a result of the opposed bail application, Emmanuel was held in custody from the time of his initial arrest through his ultimate conviction and sentencing.
