HOEDSPRUIT — A collaborative Hoedspruit dagga bust has led to the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of narcotics valued at over R1.5 million. Local law enforcement and community partners executed the operation, intercepting a massive dagga consignment and removing the illicit substances from the streets to combat regional drug trafficking.

The intelligence-driven intervention took place on Thursday, 11 June 2026, at approximately 13:30. Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Hoedspruit joined forces with the Hoedspruit Farm Watch to stop a vehicle moving along the transit route from Acornhoek into Hoedspruit. Following the stop, officers apprehended two suspects, aged 38 and 43.

A comprehensive search of the vehicle yielded 31 bags packed with the illegal substance. Authorities estimated the street value of the recovered drugs at R1,575,000. The confiscated narcotics have been logged as evidence, and the vehicle used to transport them—a white Toyota Hilux Twin Cab—was also impounded by the police.

Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the tactical team and the ongoing cooperation from community policing forums. Highlighting the strategic impact of the raid, Hadebe stated, “The seizure of drugs with such a significant street value is a clear indication of our commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks operating within the province. We commend the vigilance of our members and the valuable partnership with community stakeholders in ensuring safer communities.”

The two accused remain in custody and are scheduled to make their first court appearance at the Hoedspruit Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 15 June 2026.
