The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Sebayeng has arrested a 24-year-old man for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, a Grade 12 learner, in an incident believed to be related to domestic violence.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, 10 June 2026. At approximately 20:40, the suspect approached the residence of a SAPS member in Titibe Village, Ga-Dikgale, and confessed to killing his girlfriend. Police were immediately alerted and responded to the report.
Following the confession, the suspect led officers to his residence in Ga-Makgoba village. Inside the bedroom, police discovered the victim lying motionless. She was certified dead at the scene. Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim, who was a student at a local secondary school, had been strangled. The exact motive for the killing remains unknown.
The Sebayeng police have officially opened a murder case.
Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, strongly condemned the murder and reiterated the call for communities to reject all forms of gender-based violence and domestic abuse.
“Violence can never be a solution to relationship challenges,” Hadebe stated. “We urge members of the community to seek lawful and peaceful means of resolving disputes and to make use of available support structures when relationships become strained.”
The suspect is expected to appear before the local Magistrate’s Court soon.
