Police in Musina have opened a case of attempted murder and launched a manhunt for five male suspects following an armed attack on a security officer during a truck looting incident on Saturday, 06 June 2026.
The incident occurred at approximately 00:45 at a truck stop located behind the Musina China Mall. A 42-year-old security officer was on duty when he was approached by five unknown males wearing balaclavas, at least one of whom was armed with a firearm.
According to police reports, the suspects confronted the officer and ordered him to a parked truck on the premises, where the rear door had already been opened. The suspects commanded the security officer to offload goods from the vehicle. Upon his refusal, one suspect assaulted him with an open hand. When the victim began to scream, another suspect drew a firearm and shot him in the right thigh.
The suspects subsequently fled the scene on foot into the nearby bushes. Emergency medical services arrived at the scene and transported the wounded officer to a hospital for medical treatment.
During preliminary investigations, police discovered that several items had been removed from the truck and concealed in the surrounding bushes. Officers recovered a bolt cutter believed to have been used in the incident, along with the following goods:
* 138 boxes of Kellogg’s noodles
* 56 boxes of Pringles Pops
* 4 boxes of Aero chocolate
* 22 tins of Lucky Star fish
The truck’s driver, a Malawian national, confirmed to police that all stolen items were successfully recovered and nothing was missing from the shipment.
