A 32-year-old Zimbabwean national has been remanded in custody after appearing in the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Friday, June 5, 2026, on charges of dealing in dagga.

The suspect, identified as Lovers Moyo, had his case postponed to Friday, June 12, 2026, for a formal bail application and to allow for further police investigations.

Moyo was arrested on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, following a coordinated law enforcement operation. The joint operation was conducted by the Mopani District Tracking Team, Giyani Operational Members, the Tzaneen TRT, the Giyani Public Order Policing (POP) Unit, and private security partners.

During the operation, authorities intercepted a Nissan Qashqai at the intersection of the R529 and R81 routes within the Giyani policing area. Upon inspection, officers discovered that the vehicle was displaying registration plates that did not correspond with its registered details.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered seven wrapped brown bags and 30 black plastic bags containing dagga. The seized drugs have an estimated street value of R300,000.

Moyo, who was driving the vehicle at the time, was immediately arrested at the scene. Police investigations into the matter remain ongoing.
