The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo has arrested nine suspects linked to an organized garage safe-bombing syndicate following a meticulously coordinated, intelligence-driven operation dubbed “Vimpire.”
The crackdown marks a significant breakthrough in the provincial fight against organized crime. The operation was launched in response to a brazen garage safe-bombing incident that occurred in the Driekop policing area.
During the initial phase of Operation Vimpire, police arrested five suspects, aged between 23 and 49. Authorities state that these five individuals are believed to have played various roles in the planning and execution of the Driekop robbery.
Following the initial arrests, SAPS launched subsequent operations across several locations in the province. Raids conducted in Steelpoort, Jane Furse, Nebo, and Motodi culminated in the apprehension of four additional suspects connected to the syndicate.
The suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues.
