A 46-year-old chief whip of a prominent political party was arrested on Thursday, 28 May 2026, following the execution of a warrant of arrest issued in connection with fraud charges.

According to allegations, between August 2024 and December 2024, the suspect recruited four individuals into the party to serve as researchers. During their employment, she allegedly demanded monetary payments from each employee under the pretext that the funds were intended to cover legal costs for the President of the same political party.

Investigators state that the four complainants were compelled to remit between fifty and sixty percent of their monthly salaries to the suspect. The cumulative amount defrauded from the victims totals approximately R233,317.99.

The suspect is scheduled to make her first appearance in the Cape Magistrate’s Court today, 28 May 2026, to face the charges. The investigation remains ongoing, and no further details regarding the political party or the identity of the President referenced in the allegations have been publicly disclosed at this time.
