Warren Plaatjies (31) has been sentenced to one year in prison for a crime related to gender-based violence and femicide following the assault of a 25-year-old victim in Niekerkshoop.
The assault took place on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 15:00, when the victim was physically attacked by Plaatjies on multiple occasions during the same incident. The victim, who was in possession of a protection order, reported the matter to the police.
Plaatjies fled the scene but was arrested days later. He faced charges of contravening a protection order and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).
On Thursday, May 7, 2026, the Griekwastad Regional Court convicted Plaatjies and sentenced him to one year imprisonment. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
