ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia – The Ethiopian government has formally rejected accusations from Sudanese military officials that it was involved in drone strikes on Khartoum International Airport, describing the allegations as baseless.
Multiple drone strikes hit the airport on Monday, prompting Sudanese military officials to claim the drones were launched from Bahir Dar Airport in Ethiopia’s Amhara region. Sudan accused both Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates of what it termed “direct aggression” against Sudan. In response, Sudan has recalled its ambassador to Ethiopia.
The Ethiopian government, in a statement issued by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday afternoon, rejected the accusations as baseless. The statement counteraccused Sudan of various breaches of Ethiopia’s territorial integrity and of serving as a hub for what it described as anti-Ethiopian forces, including the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).
The statement also noted that the series of allegations by Sudan against Ethiopia is being driven by external actors with their own agendas. Ethiopia called for a transparent political transition, ultimately aiming to achieve lasting peace in Sudan.
