Business robbery trio remanded in custody ,Chatsworth

Within 72 hours after a business robbery had occurred in Chatsworth, investigators from SAPS Chatsworth arrested three suspects and recovered jewellery with an estimated value of R1.2 million together with a vector pistol allegedly used during the commission of the offence.

On 15 July 2017, a jewellery shop was robbed by three suspects at gunpoint in Chatsworth.

It is alleged that the suspects had entered the premises, held up one of the employees and tied up the victims before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash and jewellery. Intensive investigations conducted by Serious and Violent Crimes Unit at SAPS Chatsworth led to the arrest of the suspects.

On Thursday, 20 July 2017, Rajesh Naidoo (43), Moonsamy Ragavan (70) and Jayseelan Pillay (48) appeared before the Chatsworth Magistrates Court on charges of business robbery and were remanded into custody until on 27 July 2017.

KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa commends the investigators on the successful apprehension of the accused. “Police will ensure that perpetrators of such heinous crimes will be arrested and placed before the criminal justice system,” he said.
