Blue Security

A courier van driver had a lucky escape after a hijacker fired a shot at him while he was driving along the R102 near Mount Edgecombe this morning.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer said the driver was on his way to Stanger to deliver parcels when a suspect stepped into the road and opened fire at his vehicle. The incident occurred at around 9.45am.

“The hijacker fired the shot from about 20m away and the bullet hit the windscreen, deflected off the dashboard and exited just above his head through the roof of his panel van. Fortunately, the driver was unharmed,” Mathios said.

Mathios said crisis medical de-briefers and SAPS units including the K9 Flying Squad and various security companies had responded to the incident.

“The driver and his crew left the scene and headed to his company’s depot,” Mathios said.
