Western Cape police dealt a blow to drug distribution networks on Monday, 23 March 2026, following the arrest of a suspect found in possession of methamphetamine valued at an estimated R5.6 million.

Members of the Breede River K9 Unit acted on intelligence regarding drugs being transported from Johannesburg to Cape Town. Officers conducted observation along the N1 Highway, where they identified and stopped a targeted truck near Worcester.

A narcotic dog, Bella, was deployed to search the driver’s compartment and alerted on two boxes. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed 20 plastic containers containing methamphetamine.

A 59-year-old male was arrested for the possession of drugs. He is expected to appear in the Worcester Magistrate’s Court once formally charged.
