Volunteers steal food at school feeding scheme

Die Vryburger

Volunteers who helped a school feeding scheme in Khayelitsha near Cape Town were arrested after apparently helping themselves to the food rather than giving it to the children for whom it was intended.

The volunteers helped to provide 1 157 pupils from the Isiphiwo Primary School in Harare twice a day with a meal.

After the police had received a tip-off, five women were arrested who were also responsible for cooking the food. They apparently took the groceries to their homes and police found about R15 000’s worth of goods, especially large quantities of maize flour and vegetables.

This is the second case this year in which volunteers were arrested for stealing from school feeding schemes.
