
A 52-year-old man was arrested on Saturday, 21 February 2026, by members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Lebowakgomo Crime Prevention Unit for the illegal possession and transportation of chrome.
According to police reports, the chrome is estimated to be worth approximately R300,000. During the arrest, authorities also seized a white Sitrak truck fitted with two blue trailers. The value of the vehicle is estimated at around R2 million.
The suspect allegedly informed police that the chrome had been loaded from an illegal mining site located at Atok Village. He remains in custody facing charges related to the illegal possession and transportation of the mineral.
