The Madadeni High Court has sentenced Lindokuhle Mbatha (37) to four terms of life imprisonment for the murder of four individuals in January 2024. In addition to the life sentences, Mbatha received a further 80 years imprisonment for charges including attempted murder, armed robbery, and the possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The sentencing follows an investigation conducted by the Amajuba District Task Team, whose work was described in court as instrumental in securing the conviction.
The case stems from an attack that took place on the evening of Sunday, 14 January 2024, at the Mahlaba homestead in the Madlangeni area, which falls under the Charlestown policing precinct. According to court proceedings, Mbatha entered the residence of Mrs. Mhlaba and opened fire on the occupants inside.
Four people lost their lives during the incident.
