On 2 July 2017 members of a national project team set up to combat the poaching of rhinos in the country arrested yet another two suspects, a man and a woman.
The team, acting on information, have worked around the clock since Saturday night.
At around midday they spotted a Mercedes Benz, which was the subject of their operation in the area or Ntambanana. The driver, a 44 year old woman and a 33 year old male from Hazyview, Mpumalanga were arrested after the team found a rhino horn and parts of a hunting rifle and ammunition in the vehicle.
Both suspects are currently in police custody and they are expected to appear in the Ngwelezana Magistrates Court 3 July 2017. They are likely to face charges of unlawful possession of a rhino horn and unlawful possession of ammunition. Further charges may be preferred against them in respect of the rifle parts found in their possession.
