Three suspects, aged 39, 40, and 42, are appearing in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court this morning following their arrest by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI). The trio, which includes a Ward Councillor, a driver, and a political party member from the Madibeng Municipality in Brits, was apprehended in Menlyn on Thursday, 11 December 2025.
Their arrest stems from an intelligence-driven operation after they allegedly demanded a R300,000 gratification from a local businessman. The payment was requested in exchange for securing a tender advertised by the Madibeng Municipality in November 2025.
According to the investigation, one of the suspects initially contacted the businessman to inquire about his interest in being assisted to win the tender. A meeting was subsequently arranged where the amount of R300,000 was discussed. The businessman reported the solicitation to the DPCI’s Serious Corruption Investigation unit, which then obtained the necessary documents to conduct an undercover operation leading to the arrests.
